Wyken Labyrinth

Wyken Labyrinth grew from a discussion about how to make our front garden something more than a muddy short cut. It has grown into a vision to offer an ancient form of spirituality in a very modern setting and to create a place of peacefulness at the heart of busy lives.

A year ago we spent the May Bank Holiday weekend digging turf and laying stones. During the past year we have planted lavenders, allowed the grass to settle and prayerfully explored the way this labyrinth can be used. We now offer this space to the glory of God and for the well-being of the whole community. On Easter morning we planted poppy seeds – red for remembrance and white for peace, which should flower in August as we mark the 100th Anniversary of the First World War. In the Autumn we will plant a Wyken Pippen to mark the fruitfulness of creation

On Saturday 3rd May we will celebrate the official opening with friends from near and far, so please  feel free to come and join us.  This event will not involve speeches – Hurrah! Instead you are invited to stand or sit around the labyrinth and engage in a virtual prayer walk. Eight people have been invited to be pilgrims and carry symbols into the labyrinth pausing at each station so that we can prayerfully reflect on our own thoughts.  As each person begins to move to the next station, please say, “We bless this Labyrinth”

This church believes that prayer is well served with cake. And so, afterwards, you are invited to join us inside the church building for afternoon tea, or take the opportunity to walk the labyrinth.

Prayer and Retreat Days

Whilst the Labyrinth is available for anyone to use at anytime, we are also organising some prayer and retreat days where the labyrinth and other resources will be used in a more guided way. The dates, times and activities are experimental – so please feedback on what you find helpful, and what might be done differently. If you want us to organise something for a specific group of people then please contact us:- [email protected].
